Driving Climate Resilience: How Digital Innovation is Strengthening RESIST Across Europe
The RESIST Project is in full swing, developing solutions to the urgent challenges posed by climate change. Innovations are emerging across all project regions, driven by research, the adoption of groundbreaking technologies, and, above all, the collaboration of local authorities and other stakeholders. As the Transfer Plans begin to take shape, the project is witnessing knowledge being translated into action, building stronger, and more resilient communities.
How is digital innovation accelerating climate resilience? Explore in the article “Driving Climate Resilience with Digital Innovation,” and find the newly launched Mission Catalogue 2025, a comprehensive overview of 46 projects showcasing adaptation strategies from across the continent. Finally, the Media Briefing IV recap sheds light on how climate-vulnerable regions are turning challenges into action, with communities leading the way.
New ideas and solutions are emerging every day, and RESIST is ensuring that they are put into practice.
The RESIST Communications Team
Driving Climate Resilience with Digital Innovation
Across Europe, regions are facing the challenge of adapting to a changing climate. From rising sea levels to extreme weather events, the risks are growing, and so is the need for smarter, faster, and more collaborative solutions. The RESIST Project is at the forefront of this transformation, leading the way in the digital transition of climate change adaptation.
Resilient Tourism Takes Root in Puglia through RESIST
Facing rising climate challenges like water scarcity, coastal erosion, and extreme heat, the Puglia region is taking action to make its tourism sector more resilient. Through the RESIST Project, local authorities, tourism operators, and communities are working together to develop innovative adaptation strategies, from creating “climate shelters” to testing real-time alert systems. Discover how Puglia is turning climate risks into opportunities for a more sustainable and inclusive tourism future.
Cross-Cutting Projects: The Mission Catalogue 2025
The catalogue examines how various regions across Europe are addressing climate risks through practical and innovative adaptation strategies. It is a comprehensive overview of 46 projects funded under the Mission Adaptation cluster through the Horizon Europe programme that is aimed at policymakers, researchers, local authorities, and climate adaptation practitioners.
This session highlighted how climate-vulnerable areas are co-developing and sharing practical solutions to strengthen local climate resilience. Designed for journalists, the session offered an opportunity to hear directly from those at the forefront of climate adaptation.
Among the speakers were Catarina Azevedo (RESIST Operational Coordinator) and Linda Hölscher (Adelphi Senior Consultant), talking about the current panorama of the project. Christos Akratos (Professor Democritus University of Thrace), Fernando Pulido (Professor University of Extremadura) and Eija Pouta (Research at Natural Resources Institute Finland - Luke) showcased the main problems and solutions in Greece, Spain and southern Finland.
RESIST at the 4th Mission Climate Adaptation Forum
The 4th Mission Climate Adaptation Forum gathered Europe’s climate adaptation community in Wrocław (Poland) to share inspiring projects and strengthen collaboration for a more resilient future.
RESIST was featured as an exemplary project with concrete results, helping 12 European regions boost their climate resilience. Catarina Azevedo, RESIST Operational Coordinator from INOVA+, represented the project’s coordination team, led by INOVA+ and SINTEF.
With new ideas, fresh connections, and renewed motivation, we’re ready to keep moving forward. Climate adaptation is urgent, and RESIST is showing how regional action delivers real impact on the ground.
RESIST Empowers Regions with Webinars on Funding and NBS
RESIST partner SERN facilitated two thematic webinars in June to support regions in strengthening their climate adaptation strategies.
The first explored funding opportunities for climate adaptation, with expert insights from Restor, Adelphi, and Paul Watkiss Associates on financing options ranging from local funding to EIB loans and cascade funding.
The second focused on innovative nature-based solutions (NBS), featuring pitches from start-ups such as Field Factors, NatureMetrics, Xilva, and Bioo.
Both sessions provided RESIST regions with valuable tools and inspiration to boost local climate resilience.
RESIST at ECCA2025 – EU Mission Plenary Session on Climate Adaptation
The ECCA2025 conference brought together Europe’s climate adaptation community to strengthen collaboration. The session emphasised the urgency of accelerating adaptation through cooperation between science and local action.
RESIST contributed to the dialogue during the session focused on “Bridging the gap for faster action: Bringing together the research community and regions/local authorities,” organised by the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change.
Vilija Balionyte-Merle, RESIST Coordinator and Senior Business Developer at SINTEF, represented the project alongside leading voices from across Europe, including Philippe Tulkens (Directorate-General Research and Innovation, European Commission), Hein Pieper (Rijn & Ijssel Water Authority), Catherine Lauranson (City of Marseille), Richard Smithers (MIP4Adapt), and others.
Linda Holshner from Adelphi, also participated in the event in the session “Strengthening Climate Adaptation: The Role of ExAnte Assessments in Policy Design” presenting the cost-benefit analysis that is being implemented as part of resilience in some regions as SW Finland, EMT, and Normandy.
