On the upcoming Day of the Mediterranean (28 November 2025), AMWAJ’s Tabadul series will highlight how independent journalism fosters regional collaboration. Featuring a cross-border investigation on sea snot in Türkiye, Greece, and Italy, the session will explore how journalists build trust and overcome challenges to produce impactful environmental stories across the region.

CREAF - Restoring nature, early warning systems and governance are key to protecting the Mediterranean from future floods
The Mediterranean is warming 20% faster than the global average and already suffering extreme impacts like heatwaves, wildfires, biodiversity loss, and recent floods in Valencia and the Ebro Delta. To respond, the Interreg Euro-MED Natural Heritage Mission brings together 16 partners to share knowledge and link the results of 18 projects, including three focused on flood resilience. Their latest findings will be presented in Barcelona from 25–27 November at an event hosted by CREAF and MedCities.

Nawa Media: Investigation shortlisted for the ARIJ Awards for Arab Investigate Journalism
The investigation, produced by journalist Mohamed Magdi Abozeid for Nawa Media mixes Open Source and field reporting in revealing environmental threats stemming from improper disposal of slaughterhouse waste into Egypt’s sewage networks and freshwater canals. It also exposes environmental and legal violations in government-run slaughterhouses, which may cause an environmental disaster. The winner will be announced on Sunday, 6th December during the closing ceremony of the 18th ARIJ Network annual forum in Amman, Jordan.
